Not-So-Daily Link of the Day: Evangelioncharacter designer/manga creator Yoshiyuki Sadamoto and Metal Gear game creator Hideo Kojima are two of the three judges in The Twilight Saga: New Moon illustration contest being held bythe Japanese art submission website pixiv. The Twilight Saga: New Moon is the second film based on Stephenie Meyer's Twilight vampire novel series. The contest's third judge is Ryuji Gotsubo, the creator of the Sasameke manga and the illustrator of the Japanese edition of the Twilight novels. (Pictured at right is the first tankōbon novel volume in the Japanese edition of New Moon.) According to pixiv, all three judges are "huge fans" of the Twilightseries.
Sadamoto will award one winner with an autographed painting set, while Kojima will award one autographed copy of his recent Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots game. Gotsubo is offering an autographed set of the first three Twilight tankōbon novel volumes, which cover the same material as the first American novel volume. The pixiv website's premium members will also vote on 10 winners who will each receive two tickets for the film. The deadline for entry is November 15. The film will open in North America on November 20 and in Japan on November 28.
Viz Media publishes Sadamoto's Neon Genesis Evangelion manga in North America, whileADV Films released the anime. Yen Press not only licensed Gotsubo's Sasameke manga, but it is also planning to publish a Twilight graphic novel adaptation drawn by Korean artist Young Kim.
Besides Evangelion, Sadamoto also designed The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, FLCL, this year's Summer Wars, and many other titles. Similarly, Kojima produced the Zone of Enders and created Policenauts in addition to the Metal Gear franchise. He made a cameo appearance in the live-action Azumi film, and the Zone of the Enders television anime's credits give "special thanks to" Kojima.
