Synopsis

A flashback to the Second Impact shows a young Misato being placed into an escape capsule as the area is decimated. Back in the present, Misato is promoted to Major, which prompts Kensuke and Tôji to throw a party. The 10th Angel is detected high above Earth's atmosphere zeroing in on Tokyo-3, where it will fall and collide directly.

Misato has a flashback to 2000 AD, 15 years ago, and the exact point in time when the Second Impact struck Earth. She recalls how her fatally injured father hurriedly secured her within an escape pod before contact with the impact's shock wave, and then looking out from sea back on the horrific devastation caused by the First Angel.

Back in the present, a new threat has appeared. It is the tenth angel and it is in the orbit of the Earth. It seems to be targeting Nerv headquarters. 

Meanwhile, Commander Fuyutski and Ikari are in Antartica so Misato is in charge. She comes up with a plan to destroy the angel but it is risky. The plan is for the Eva to catch the angel while it is falling from the sky. The pilot thinks that its stupid but Misato promised them that if they do it, she will treat them to a steak dinner. 

All the preparations have been made and the pilots are ready. They see the angel falling and the mission begins. Shinji arrives first and was able to catch. He struggles a little for the angel's velocity and mass is great. Then the other two Eva's arrive and they teamed up to destroy the angel. 

Now that they are done, Commander Ikari praises Shinji for the job well done. After that they are going out to eat. They stopped by a ramen shop and Asuka tells Misato that she knows how poor she is so a ramen shop will be fine. 

While eating, Shinji tells Misato why she pilots his eva and it is because he wants to hear praises from his father.
