Synopsis

Shinji runs away from Misato and NERV after hurting each other in their attempt to be closer. Their relationship is described as the "hedgehog's dilemma," wherein the closer they become the more they can hurt each other. Shinji is finally captured by NERV and discharged, but his need for others keeps him from boarding the outbound train.

Misato wakes up and notices that Shinji is missing. A ring from the doorbell raises her hope but only finds two of Shinji's classmates.

Meanwhile, Shinji is sitting on a train. He spent the whole day and when the service ended, he just roamed around and went to the country side.

Ritsuko is running test on Ayanami and asks Misato why Shinji ran away. She told her that they had a fight after the battle with the Fourth Angel.

Shinji met up with one of his classmates and spent his time with him. Suddenly, Nerv security forces arrives and takes Shinji away.

The security forces takes Shinji to the train station. Shinji's train arrives while Misato races to catch up to Shinji. She was disappointed that it has already left but was delighted to see that Shinji did not get on the train.
