Synopsis

Eva-01's first encounter goes badly with the fifth Angel. While Shinji heals, Misato displays her tactfulness by organizing Operation Yashima, which involves utilizing all the electrical power in Japan to power a prototype rifle. The success hinges on the teamwork of both Eva-00 and Eva-01.

After surfacing, Unit 01 was hit by the Fifth Angel's energy beam. Due to Misato's quick thinking, only the chestplate was damaged. After the encounter, the Angel started to drill a hole to the Geofront but must first get through the 22 defensive barriers set up by NERV. This will take a while and it will give enough time to prepare a counterattack. Misato planned to used the SSDF prototype energy rifle and use the energy from the whole country of Japan in order to penetrate the Angels AT Field. Shinji is in position to fire the rifle and shoots, but at the same time, the Angel fires his energy beam towards Shinji. This distorted the paths of the beams and missed one another. It will take time before Shinji can fire again but the Angel has no problem firing a second shot. Rey stepped in the path of the beam to try and give Shinji enough time. When he was ready, Shinji fired a second shot that hit the Angel's core and ending the battle.
